How Vetology Supports Your Clinic’s Imaging Workflow at Three Levels

TL;DR: Vetology supports a clinic’s imaging workflow at three levels. AI screening reports are the first line: they give the veterinarian a check on canine and feline thorax, abdomen, thoracic and lumbar spine, and pelvis radiographs in under five minutes. Order a board-certified or board-eligible radiologist report when patient care calls for more detail or information.  Behind both, Vetology’s team handles setup, provides a cloud PACS at no additional cost, team training, and ongoing support, so our team can unburden yours from the admin work associated with imaging workflows.

Diagnostic imaging involves team members across the clinic. A technician positions the patient and takes the radiographs. A veterinarian interprets them and talks through a plan with the family. And someone manages and maintains the equipment connections, the image archive, and ensures the team are trained and safe. Vetology supports each of these roles in different ways.

Level one: AI screening as the first line

When a patient with a cough comes in, a technician may take lateral and VD thoracic radiographs. The images go to Vetology automatically from the clinic’s existing X-ray system through DICOM autosend. In under five minutes, an AI screening report is ready, as a PDF by email or in the platform. The veterinarian can check their own interpretation against it before talking through a plan with Duke’s family, while they’re still in the room.

The subscription includes unlimited AI screening reports, so nobody has to weigh a per-case cost in the exam room.

AI screening reports cover canine and feline radiographs of the thorax, abdomen, thoracic and lumbar spine, and pelvis, using 94 classifiers. We publish sensitivity and specificity for each classifier on our AI classifier performance page, so your team can check performance and species-specific classifiers for the conditions your clinic sees most.

steps to receive an AI report include autosending images and auto receiving reports within minutes, all while the patient is in the room.

Level two: teleradiology for additional patient support

Sometimes a treatment plan calls for additional specialist support: a study the AI doesn’t cover, a finding the veterinarian wants confirmed, or a patient who needs a radiologist’s (or cardiologist’s) report to support a complex treatment plan or ongoing care management. Using the same images and the same platform, the clinic can order a teleradiology report from Vetology, and a board-certified or board-eligible radiologist will review the study independently of the prior AI report.

Teleradiology covers every region and modality – thorax, abdomen, musculoskeletal system, skull, cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, and limb radiographs, ultrasound, CT, MRI, dental, and cardiology studies. Single-region radiograph reports start at $86, ordered per case with no volume minimum. STAT reports come back in about two hours when sent on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Pacific, and routine radiograph reports in about 24 hours. Clinics using CoVet, Scribblevet and soon HappyDoc can order with one click. Ask about our PMS integrations.

A clinic that already works with a teleradiology provider can add AI screening without changing providers.

Level three: back-office support, from your team to ours

The work behind imaging appears invisible, but it’s real and someone at the clinic owns it. They connect the equipment, manage the image store, trouble shoot issues, train the new hire, and field the questions nobody else in the building can answer. Vetology’s team can take much of that off their hands.

  • Setup and training. Setup is available through a guided 45- to 60-minute call. We help set up autosend from the clinic’s existing equipment, confirm images are coming through, and train the team on the platform. No new hardware is needed, and we train new hires free.
  • Storage and prior studies. Cloud PACS and long-term storage are included, and prior studies open from any device. Images from a previous system can be moved over for a one-time fee.
  • Support from people who know imaging. The team can reach us by phone, email, or in-platform chat, and a person answers. Our team includes veterinary radiologists, veterinary technicians, customer support staff, data scientists, and engineers, so a question about a study or a connection goes to someone who can answer it. When no colleague is free to talk through a case, contact us and we’ll ask our in-house radiologists for guidance, often at no extra charge.
  • Resources and integrations. The platform’s resources menu includes positioning and exposure primers for the team. We also turn on integrations with DaySmart Vet, VetRocket, CoVet, and ScribbleVet, with more on the way.
Vetology offers all the built in services your team needs for a complete imaging workflow

What it costs and how to start

The AI subscription is (at the time of this writing) $200 a month, with no contract. It includes unlimited AI screening reports on the covered regions, plus cloud PACS, storage, training, and support. Teleradiology is billed per case, only when the veterinarian orders it. More on our pricing.
